About Wild Moments

Safari Planning by a Former Game Ranger

Every itinerary is built by someone who guided in the Sabi Sands and led the ranging team at andBeyond Phinda.

Meet Jarryd

Eight Years in the Bush

Jarryd du Preez grew up visiting Pilanesberg as a child, and those early mornings in the reserve set the course for everything that followed. He qualified as a field guide and started his career at andBeyond Phinda Forest Lodge in KwaZulu-Natal, then went on to guide at Kirkman's Kamp in the Sabi Sands. As a private guide he also hosted guests at Ngala and Dulini.

He later assisted with lodge management at andBeyond Tengile River Lodge, then returned to Phinda as Head Ranger. Two years leading the ranging team at andBeyond Phinda gave him a close view of how a serious reserve works, from anti-poaching patrols to species monitoring. He came to know which lodges back their conservation talk with budget, and which do not.

When lodges closed during the pandemic, Jarryd kept guiding online, presenting live virtual safaris for WildEarth and featuring in andBeyond's films. During his guiding years he led specialist walking and photographic safaris, and that grounding in tracking and wildlife behaviour shapes the trips he builds today.

Our Approach

Why Use Wild Moments?

Most safari bookings happen through large online agencies or call centres staffed by people who have never set foot in Africa. Wild Moments works differently. Every reserve and lodge we recommend is one Jarryd has either visited personally, or knows through trusted contacts in the industry.

We are particular about conservation standards. The lodges we work with actively fund anti-poaching operations, habitat restoration and community programmes. When you book a trip through us, your money goes to places that deserve it.

There are no packages, no minimum spends and no upselling. We listen to what you want, ask the right questions and build an itinerary that fits your trip, not ours.

“I don’t recommend a lodge I haven’t walked into myself, or one I don’t know through the people who run it. If a reserve is not serious about its conservation, it does not go on your itinerary. That is the whole business.”
